PI – Process Integration

SAP Process Integration (PI) and Process Orchestration (PO) are two related technologies from SAP that help organizations integrate their systems and processes to improve business process efficiency.

SAP PI is an enterprise integration platform that enables organizations to communicate and share data between different systems such as SAP and non-SAP systems, application-to-application (A2A), business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-customer (B2C).

SAP PO is an enhanced version of SAP PI that provides additional functionality to automate and optimize business processes.

Difference between SAP PI and PO

SAP PI and PO differ in the following areas:

  • Functionality: SAP PI focuses on systems integration, while SAP PO focuses on automation and process optimization.
  • Complexity: SAP PI is less complex than SAP PO.
  • Price: SAP PI is more affordable than SAP PO

This figure shows the architecture of SAP Process Integration and Process Orchestration. SAP PI and PO work together to integrate different systems and processes within an organization.

SAP Process Integration (PI) and Process Orchestration (PO) support a wide range of communication protocols, including:

  • HTTP
  • HTTPS
  • FTP
  • SFTP
  • JMS
  • SOAP
  • REST
  • MQTT
  • OPC UA

In addition, SAP PI and PO provide custom communication protocols that enable integration with custom systems and applications
